Satterfield Provides Update Following Fall Camp

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- With the 2022 college football season on the horizon, the University of Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield discussed his team's performance through fall camp.Â
"I think it has been a really good camp, it's been a physical camp," Satterfield said. "They have really been getting after it, whether they are in just upper shoulder pads and helmets or full, they have been getting after it."Â
On the offensive side of the ball, the running back group has been one that has stuck out to Satterfield heading into the season. UofL returns three running backs from last season, redshirt sophomore Jalen Mitchell, sophomore Trevion Cooley, and redshirt sophomore Jawhar Jordan.Â
Â
Mitchell led the way on the ground last season, ending the year with 722 rushing yards on 155 attempts and five touchdowns, while adding twelve receptions for 121 yards. Cooley carried the ball 86 times for 431 yards and a touchdown and led all running backs in the receiving category with 173 yards receiving on 12 receptions for two touchdowns. Jordan added 14 rushing attempts for 94 yards in the 2021 season for the Cards.Â
Â
Adding to that running back depth chart is Tennessee transfer Tiyon Evan, who finished with 525 yards on the ground on 81 carries for six touchdowns along with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in seven games for the Vols.
Â
"The running back position has just been the guys that have continued to excel day-in and day-out," Satterfield said. " When you think about the competition in that room, the guys that want to play they have to bring it every single day and that room has been impressive to see."Â
Â
Senior wide receiver Braden Smith, who suffered a season-ending knee injury four games into the 2021 season, has also returned to the field for the Cards.Â
Â
"What a blessing to have Braden back," Satterfield said. "He's so knowledgeable, so experienced, he understands exactly what we are trying to do offensively. We can play him in the slot, he can play the Z for us, he can do everything. He picked up right where he left off last year."
Â
As for the defense, Satterfield said the linebackers have stood out throughout camp in terms of performance, energy, and competition.
