Cards Split Matches at Wolfpack Match Play Event

LOUISVILLE – The University of Louisville women's golf team split a pair of match during the first day of competition at the Wolfpack Match Play on Sunday, with eight schools participating in the first and second rounds of bracket play at Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
Louisville began the day with a matchup against conference-rival Virginia Tech resulting in a 3-2 win for the Cardinals overs the Hokies.
In the first match of the day, Gabbi Bentancourt put the Cards on the board with a 4&3 win and Mairead Martin took a 5&4 win. Kendall Griffin picked up the decisive win with a 1UP in 19 holes.
The Cardinals dropped their second match 4-1 to South Carolina, with Martin picking up the only win.
The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow against NC State in the third-place match, with North Carolina and third-ranked South Carolina set to face off in the championship match.
Louisville will begin play at 8 a.m., against NC State in the third-place match.
