Cards Roll Past No. 23 NC State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 23 NC State 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The win marked Louisville's second straight win over a top-25 opponent as the Cardinals defeated then No. 17 Duke on the road last weekend. The 27th-ranked Cardinals improve to 15-6 (7-2 ACC) and are now 11-0 at home this season.
NC State took the first doubles match, winning 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Louisville responded when Etienne Donnet and Tin Chen upset the Wolfpack's No. 19 Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli 6-4 on at the No. 1 spot. The final doubles match was highly competitive, but Natan Rodrigues and Sergio Hernandez were able to outlast No. 39 Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek 7-6 (7-1) to put Louisville ahead 1-0.
In singles, Louisville extended its lead to 2-0 when Rodrigues rolled past Braden Shick 6-2, 6-1. The Wolfpack were able to get on the board after winning 6-3, 6-3 on court 6. Donnet put the Cardinals ahead 3-1 after he defeated No. 82 Rafa Izquierdo Luque 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Hernandez outlasted Martin Rocens 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) on court 4 to clinch the match for the Cardinals.
Up next, Louisville will return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to host No. 7 Wake Forest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
