Hailey Van Lith tallies her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The No. 18/15 Louisville women's basketball team dropped its second game in a row to Middle Tennessee, 67-49, Sunday evening at the Murphy Center. The Cardinals (5-4) held a three-point lead after the first quarter but shooting woes plagued them the rest of the game as they fell to the Blue Raiders (5-2).
Olivia Cochran led the way for the Cardinals with a team-high 14 points and added seven rebounds. Hailey Van Lith tallied her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. It is Van Lith's third double-double of the season and the fourth of her career. Chrislyn Carr was the third Cardinal in double figures with 10 points, the fourth time in her last four games she has scored 10 points or more.
Savannah Wheeler led the way for the Blue Raiders with a game-high 23 points. Courtney Whitson was also in double figures for Middle Tennessee with 16 points.
The first quarter was close as both teams were getting into the rhythm of the game. The Cardinals went on a 9-0 run towards the end of the quarter and got the lead up to five. The Blue Raiders made the last shot of the quarter and the Cards held an 18-15 lead. Olivia Cochran was the catalyst for the Cards, as she scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in the opening quarter.
The Blue Raiders stormed back in the second quarter as the Cardinals went cold from the floor. Louisville hit just three shots in the second quarter and Middle Tennessee went on a 15-2 run to close out the first half. The Blue Raiders took a 34-25 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, the shooting woes continued for the Cardinals. Middle Tennessee extended its lead to as big as 20 points in the third quarter as the Cardinals made just four of 15 shots from the floor. Heading into the final quarter of action, Louisville trailed 54-36.
The Cardinals were able to reduce the deficit to 13 points in the fourth quarter but were unable to keep chipping away to come all the way back. This is the first time Louisville has dropped back-to-back games since the 2019-20 season.
The Cardinals will have a quick turnaround for their next game. The Cards are back in action at the KFC Yum! Center on Tuesday, December 6, when they host SIUE. The Cardinals and Cougars will start at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday and the game will be streamed on ACCNX. It will be Louisville's last home game for over three weeks as they begin a four-game road trip following Tuesday's game.
