November 09, 2022 | Women's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes and her staff announced on Wednesday that they have added three players to its 2023 class.
Molly Cochran, Betsy Huckaby and Emma Sanchez are set to join the Cardinals for the 2023 season next fall. Huckaby is a local product from Crestwood, Kentucky, Cochran is from nearby Madeira, Ohio and Sanchez comes from Camas, Washington.
Molly Cochran
Midfield | 5-8
Hometown: Madeira, Ohio
High School: Madeira High School
Club Team: Ohio Elite
Cochran comes to the Cardinals with an impressive resume after playing high school and club in the Cincinnati area. She was an All-American and All-State player her sophomore year and a three-time first team all-conference player. She led Madeira to three district championships during her time there. While playing club for Ohio Elite, she was Ohio Valley ECNL 1st team all-conference and was selected for the 2022 ECNL national selection game in Tennessee.
"I have watched Molly for a very long time and I love her competitiveness and her ability to influence the attack both with and without the ball. She is technically gifted and very dangerous in front of goal both with her finishing as well as her final passing. Molly is someone we feel will have the ability to see playing time immediately and we are very excited about her future as a Cardinal!" – Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes
"Molly is one of the most dynamic players I have ever been around. Her pace and skill with the ball make her a nightmare for opponents. She is as smooth and technical a player as you will find. She ties all of that up with her ability to both score goals and set up her teammates. Lastly, she has an intrinsic love for playing the game and being around her teammates." - Doug Bracken, Club Coach
"Molly Cochran is one of the most complete and driven youth soccer players to come through Cincinnati in quite some time. Molly was born to compete and play in the ACC. Molly has played on some of the biggest stages in high school and club soccer for many years. Molly plays the game with a flare that is only seen at the highest levels of the game. Louisville is the perfect fit for this dynamic midfielder because it will offer her the ability to play against the best women's soccer players from some of the top programs in America." - Dan Brady, High School Coach
Betsy Huckaby
Midfield | 5-7
Hometown: Crestwood, Ky.
High School: South Oldham High School
Club Team: Racing Louisville Academy
Huckaby is a local product from Crestwood, went to South Oldham High School and played club for Racing Louisville Academy. South Oldham won the State Championship her senior year and were state runner-ups in her junior season. During her four years at South Oldham, they compiled a 77-11-2 record. She was District MVP, 8th Region Player of the Year and first team All-State her senior year and was just named Ms. Kentucky Soccer. She was first team All-Region and second team All-State after her junior year.
"Betsy was Ms. Kentucky Soccer this year and deservedly so. Betsy has an engine and she is a tireless worker. She's coming from a great high school program where her team is always competing for state championships. She also plays for a competitive club team and both of those experiences will help her make the transition to the college game." – Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes
"I've always said There are people who play soccer and then there are soccer players. Betsy is more than both. She is a complete team player who will give her heart and soul for the program. The worst thing you can ever do is doubt her, because she is going to use that as fuel and is going to outwork you. She'll be the first to training and the last one to leave. And that work ethic is going to be huge for her in her journey into the NCAA Division I level." - Kenny Burke, High School Coach
Emma Sanchez
Defender | 5-7
Hometown: Camas, Washington
High School: Camas High School
Club Team: Northwest Elite FC ECNL
Sanchez comes to Louisville from the west coast as she is from Camas, Washington. She did not play high school soccer and played club with Northwest Elite FC ECNL. With her club team, they reached the 2021-22 ECNL National Playoffs Champions League and was named to 2021-22 First Team All-Conference. She also competed in the ECNL National Playoffs North American Cup in 2020-21 and were Northwest Conference Champions, Oregon State Cup Champions and FarWest Regional Champions in 2018. Sanchez was also part of the 2016-17 USYNT Identification Training Center.
"Emma will be a great addition to our program. She is very composed and comfortable on the ball and that will certainly help her in the very prestigious ACC. Emma is a very hard working and reliable young woman who we are thrilled to add her to our program." – Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes
"Since becoming ECNL and RL DOC on March 1, 2022, I have had the pleasure to watch Emma play and compete with our 2005 ECNL group. She is an integral member of this team — not only in the strength of her individual play in the back line but her overall commitment and focus to the selfless giving to the team. She is sharp on the ball, which gives her team the necessary attacking outlet from the defensive half, she is tough to be beat in her 1v1 defensive battles and organized to her backline group structure - helping form the defensive unit connection that is vital to stopping the opponent. I wish her the best moving to Louisville for her collegiate experience and know that they are getting a wonderful human being, as well as an impact soccer player!" - Tiffeny Milbrett, Club Coach
