
Louisville Earns Top-25 Finish in Fall Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings

The Cardinals closed out the fall ranked 25th.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville athletics department closed out the fall semester in 25th place in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I standings released on Thursday.
Louisville totaled 186 points across its fall sports and is one of seven ACC schools ranked in the top 25, the most of any conference in the country. No other conference had more than four.
UofL accrued points in field hockey, football, men's soccer and volleyball with all four teams reaching their respective postseasons.
Louisville volleyball put together a historic 2021 campaign, finishing the season with a 32-1 record and the program's first-ever appearance in the national semifinals. The Cardinals won their first 32 matches, captured a second straight ACC title and earned the first No. 1 national ranking in program history. Dani Busboom Kelly's team was the top seed in the NCAA Tournament and rolled to four consecutive postseason victories, including wins over No. 16 Florida and No. 8 Georgia Tech at Freedom Hall.
UofL field hockey continued its run of success during the fall, turning in a 16-4 mark and earning its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cardinals matched the program record with 16 wins and claimed a second straight ACC regular season crown with an undefeated record in conference play. Louisville was ranked as high as third during the season and notched 10 of its 16 victories against ranked opponents.
Louisville men's soccer had a banner fall, claiming the program's first ACC Atlantic Division championship. The Cardinals closed out the year with a 10-7-1 record and the program's 13th NCAA appearance in the last 15 years. UofL ranked among the top scoring offenses in the country, racking up its highest goal total since the 2010 season.
The Louisville football team averaged better than 31 points per game this fall on its way to a six-win season and a bid to the First Responder Bowl. It was the 19th postseason appearance for the Cardinals in the last 24 seasons and the second in three years under head coach Scott Satterfield.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
