Cardinals Add Hannah File to 2022 Roster
July 12, 2021 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville softball coach Holly Aprile has announced that Hannah File will join the Cardinals' roster as a graduate student after playing three seasons at James Madison University.
Â
"Hannah has such positive energy about her, and she truly loves the game," said Aprile. "Those are two genuine qualities that we value very highly. She carries herself with a confidence and attitude that we are excited to coach and we cannot wait to get started!"
Â
File, a native of Shelbyville Indiana, played for JMU from 2018-20, helping the Dukes to an NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2019 and an NCAA regional bid in 2018. She carried a .325 career batting average with 13 home runs and scored 71 runs while driving in 62.
Â
The infielder/utility player was a 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region second team selection after posting a .315 batting average with eight homers, 11 doubles, 50 runs and 39 RBIs en route to the program's first-ever Super Regional appearance. That year, JMU finished the season with a 51-10 record and reached as high as No. 13 in the NFCA and USA Softball rankings. Additionally, File earned All-Colonial Athletic Conference honors and was named Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State team.
Â
In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, File stood third on the team with a .389 batting average, four home runs, 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Â
Prior to her time at JMU, the Shelbyville High School product finished her high school career as the record holder several offensive categories including: batting average, hits, home runs, doubles, triples and runs scored. As a senior, she was a 2017 Indiana Sports Awards Softball Player of the Year finalist and an ICGSA Indiana All-Star. Additionally, File was a three-time Indiana All-State selection and garnered all-conference honors in each of her seasons. She was also a four-time Shelby County Swimmer of the Year and holds the school record in the backstroke.
Â
File will join the Cardinals' 2022 roster while pursuing her MBA at UofL.
Â
"As a transfer, there are many different boxes I needed to check off my list and UofL checked them all," said File. "The amazing coaching staff along with the players, academic opportunities, athletic facilities, and being in a city with such an amazing support staff and fan base."
