December 18, 2021 | Women's Basketball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball mourns the loss of former student-athlete Stacey Hillman Overton (Feb. 5, 1977-Dec. 17, 2021), who passed away on Friday.
She is survived by her husband Tony Overton and her daughter Nakayla Bowman.
Hillman played for Louisville from 1995 to 2000 and helped lead the Cardinals to Conference USA regular season championships in 1997 and 1999.
She was a loyal Cardinal fan and loved to watch the women's basketball team play when they were in Nashville or the surrounding area.
Jeff Walz, Louisville head coach
"Our program is so sorry to hear of the passing of Stacey Overton. She was a pivotal part of the Cardinal women's basketball program and laid the foundation for the amazing platform our current players stand on today. Stacey supported our program way beyond her playing days and we are truly grateful for her life and her contribution to the game of basketball. Cardinal Forever Stacey Hillman Overton."
Sara White, Louisville head coach (1997-2000)
"Losing Stacey is a big loss for the Cardinal family. She was such a bright light. So positive, kind, warm and funny. Her smile and laugh were infectious. She will be missed and we wish peace for her daughter, her husband and her entire family."
Janelle Antoine, Louisville teammate
"Stacey was a big sister to me on and off the court. She showed up for me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and it got me through one of the toughest times of my life. I love you Sis. Rest easy, until we meet again."
Sharon Bellamy, Louisville teammate
"You were a good roommate and teammate. When I think of Taylor Made, Indy's and White Castle, that freshman year was everything. We had a better time off the court than on it."
Roscelle Bullock, Louisville teammate
"You were an amazing teammate and a beautiful person inside and out. Your smile would light up a room and you always had a special glow. I will forever cherish all the fun times and laughs we shared. Until we meet again my sista….L1C4."
April Goddard, Louisville teammate
"I wish we had time for one more team reunion, one more laugh down memory lane. I will forever remember our dancing in the dorms, spades in the airports and the laughter you brought everywhere."
Kara Kessans, teammate
"I will always cherish our friendship. You were a great teammate, an amazing mom and overall just a good person. You had a big heart and your positive energy was infectious."
