
Louisville Hosts Union University (Tenn.) in Exhibition on Thursday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball hosts an exhibition against Union University (Tenn.) on Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET and broadcast on 790-AM WKRD.

Louisville was picked sixth in the Associated Press preseason poll and second in the ACC preseason poll, while Hailey Van Lith was named to the All-ACC preseason team.

Last season, Louisville won its fourth consecutive ACC regular season title and finished with a 26-4 record. They entered the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed and advanced to the Elite Eight for the sixth time in program history.

Louisville is 122-15 (.891) over the last four seasons, which marks the fewest losses and best winning percentage over a four-year span in program history.

Head coach Jeff Walz (385-108) is the winningest coach in program history; directing the Cards to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 10 Sweet 16's, six Elite Eight's, three trips to the Final Four (2009, 2013, 2018) and two appearances in the national title game (2009, 2013). Prior to his arrival, the Cardinals had never reached a Sweet 16.

The Cardinals return six players that made starts last season including redshirt senior Kianna Smith, senior Mykasa Robinson and sophomores Olivia Cochran and Van Lith, who were both named to the 2020-21 ACC All-Freshman Team.

Kianna Smith is the leading returning scorer for the Cardinals after averaging 11.4 points per game a season ago. Van Lith returns after starting all 30 games last season and averaging 11.2 points per game as a freshman. Cochran finished with 9.9 points per game and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per contest during her freshman campaign.

Union was selected by the coaches as the preseason favorite to repeat as Gulf South Conference Champions. In addition, Jaelencia Williams and Shanique Lucas were both named to the preseason All-GSC team. Williams, a senior back for her COVID season, was named the GSC West Player of the Year last season, first-team All-GSC, GSC All-Tournament, South Region All-Tournament and D2CCA All-America honorable mentioned. She averaged 17.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game last season. Lucas, as a sophomore last season, was named first-team All-GSC West, GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, GSC All-Tournament, and GSC All-Academic. She led Union with 18.4 points per game. She added 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.Â
