The Cardinals closed out the regular season with a 10-6-0 overall record and a 5-3-0 mark in ACC play. Louisville finished with a share of the ACC Atlantic Division title, its first regular season crown since joining the league in 2014.
UofL will be the No. 4 seed in the ACC Championship that begins next week. The Cardinals will have a first round bye before hosting the winner of fifth-seeded Notre Dame and 12th-seeded NC State in the quarterfinal round on Sunday, Nov. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Friday night started on a high note for the Cardinals, with a goal from Macoumba Ba putting Louisville in front in the 20th minute. Pedro Fonseca and Aboubacar Camara played the ball across the top of the box and Ba bent a right-footed shot inside the right post.
Clemson (12-4-0, 5-3-0) answered back in the 32nd minute, tying the match up at one and it would remain level heading into halftime.
It was all Clemson after the break though. The Tigers netted the go-ahead goal just four minutes into the second half and found another five minutes later.
The Cardinals threatened on multiple occasions over the next 20 minutes, but Clemson put the match away with goals in the 75th and 80th minutes to close out the night.
Louisville was outshot 22-10 on the night, just the third time its finished with fewer shots than the opposition this season.
