Doug Wilham Named UofL Women’s Basketball PA Announcer
January 07, 2021 | Women's Basketball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Doug Wilham has been selected as the University of Louisville's public address announcer for women's basketball games at the KFC Yum! Center.
Wilham has been in place for the last three home events and is excited to continue in that role moving forward.
"It is really an honor, especially being a Louisville native, to get an opportunity like this. There were very talented individuals who tried out for the position, so I consider myself very lucky to do it. This is a special team and program," Wilham said. "I can't wait to be in front of the full home crowd here in the KFC Yum! Center. I am very excited and looking forward to every game that I get to announce."
UofL accepted multiple submissions for the position, narrowed the candidates down to a small group, and used early-season games as opportunities for live tryouts. Ultimately, Wilham was selected to fill the role vacated when Sean Moth, the Cardinals' public address announcer for the past 21 years, who resigned his athletics staff position on Aug. 26.
Wilham is in his 23rd year working for Jefferson County Public Schools and for the last two years has served as the athletic director at Eastern High School. He has spent 17-plus years as a math teacher.
He got his start announcing Eastern football, basketball, and baseball games, and has also announced the Louisville Invitational Tournament, the annual boys and girls' high school basketball tournament.
Wilham has also spent time with men's public address announcer Lance McGarvey at Indiana University Southeast, where he had the privilege to announce the 2019-20 Rivers State Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament.
The longtime teacher appeared as a contestant on Jeopardy on Feb. 18, 2019, finishing third, but could have won if he would have bet $0 in Final Jeopardy.
Doug and his wife Jennifer have one daughter Hannah (16) and one son Caleb (12).
