September 28, 2020 | Men's Soccer
Bryce LeBel scored his first collegiate goal for the Cardinals.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team lost 3-1 at in-state rival Kentucky on Monday night at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington.
Louisville (0-2-0) was outshot 17-9 on the night, but held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Kentucky (2-1-0) found the net first, as a long ball got over the backline and provided the Wildcats with a tap-in for Eythor Bjorgolfsson to start the scoring in the 27th minute.
The match went to the break at 1-0 with UK leading 8-4 in shots through 45 minutes.
The Cardinals leveled the match exactly 10 minutes into the second half on the third of three consecutive corner kicks. Haji Abdikadir played a perfect ball into the center of the box and Bryce LeBel headed it home to tie it at one. It was the second assist in as many matches for Abdikadir and the first career goal for the freshman LeBel.
Things remained even at one for only seven minutes though, with the Wildcats tucking home their second goal of the night from Bjorgolfsson in the 62nd minute to move back in front.
Kentucky then tacked on a third and final goal in the 84th minute, converting a penalty kick after a foul in the box against the Cardinals.
Louisville returns home to start ACC play this weekend with the first of two regular season meetings against Notre Dame.
