Louisville’s Bitting and Bennett Participate in NCAA Career in Sports Forum
June 03, 2020 | Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Beyond the Buzzer
The University of Louisville's Alli Bitting (field hockey) and Liam Bennett (men's soccer) joined nearly 400 NCAA student-athletes who took the opportunity to get career guidance and network with athletics administrators and sports industry experts virtually May 27-29 at the 2020 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
"I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to represent the University of Louisville at the NCAA Career in Sports Forum," said Bitting, a rising field hockey senior from Hummelstown, Pa. "This experience allowed me to learn about the many different career opportunities in sport, and participate in sessions centered around personal development and growth. The speakers at this event did a phenomenal job of sharing their passions and experiences with us and served as a source of inspiration and guidance for all participants looking to pursue a career in sports. "
The objective of the three-day forum is to prepare junior and senior student-athletes for a career after graduation. The forum helps student-athletes learn more about themselves as leaders by exposing them to projects that require critical thinking as well as practical experiences that will strengthen their personal and professional skills and competencies. Through their participation, attendees have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of roles within the athletics industry and how their personal and professional interests align with potential career paths.
"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to attend the NCAA's Career in Sports Forum and hear the stories of so many influential and successful people in the sports industry," said Bennett, a senior on the 2019 men's soccer team. "The forum gave me a chance to expand my network and learn more about what it takes to lead, mentor and bring the best out of other people."
Besides hosting the Career in Sports Forum each year, the NCAA leadership development office sponsors other targeted programs that assist student-athletes with the transition to life after college sports, as well as programs to enhance their leadership skills. The department also facilitates inclusive programming for athletics administrators and coaches who work with student-athletes on college campuses.
