Funke Named to 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team

Funke earns second-straight CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team honor
The University of Louisville's Celene Funke has been named to the 2020 Academic All-America® Softball Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She becomes the program's first three-time Academic All-America selection.
To be nominated for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
This marks the third straight CoSIDA Academic All-America honor for Funke (Carmel, Ind.) who also earned the award in 2018 and 2019.
The three-year starter from Carmel, Ind., was a preseason all-ACC selection and a Senior CLASS Award candidate in 2020. She was leading the team in stolen bases (13-for-13) and triples (3) when her senior season came to an abrupt halt after 23 games. In 2019, Funke turned in a stellar junior campaign in which she led the nation in triples and set a school record with 13. She currently stands third on Louisville's career list for triples (18) and third on the all-time stolen base list with 62.
Funke is currently pursuing her MBA after earning her bachelor's degree in finance in May 2019 with a 4.0 cumulative G.P.A.The 2020-21 Student Athlete Advisory Council President will return to the field for the Cardinals the next season, electing to use a fifth year of eligibility granted by the NCAA after the COVID-19 pandemic.
