Checking in with Madison Ciaccio
May 07, 2020 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the 2020 season unexpectedly ended due to COVID-19, we are checking in with members of the team as they complete the spring semester while navigating time spent away from campus in what would normally be the middle of their season. Up next in the series is junior Madison Ciaccio.
Â
When the season ended, had played in eight games with three starts at first base. The New Orleans, La., native carried a .400 batting average with two doubles, including one in the Cardinals' 4-3 win against No. 10 Oregon.Â

Catching up with Madison Ciaccio
Full name: Madison Ann Ciaccio
Hometown: New Orleans, La.
Class:Â Junior
Major: Psychology
Fun Fact: Wears No. 19 because it is her birthdate and has worn it her entire playing career
Â
What was your reaction when you found out that your season had ended?"
I think like everyone else I was shocked. It didn't seem real at the time. It's crazy how fast something can be taken from you. But, after thinking about everything going on, I realized how much bigger this is than just a season. I think you have to look at the bigger picture. It sucks, but it's not always about you.
Â
What do you do in your downtime?
I have been drawing more, I'm not very good but it relaxes me. I also like to watch Netflix/YouTube.
Â
How are you communicating with teammates, coaches, etc.?
Just trying to check in when I can, it's important to make sure everyone is doing okay and hold each other accountable.
Â
What words of support or encouragement would you send fellow student-athletes?
Just to keep your head up. I believe that everything happens for a reason so try to remain positive in this uncertain time.
Â
Are you doing any sorts of workouts from home?
Yes, I'm trying my best to stay active in any way. Body weight activities, going for walks/a run.
Â
What do you like best (or miss) about Louisville?
The community vibe is great here. We're one big family. You can really feel the support throughout the city.
Â
Do you play an instrument, sing, speak multiple languages or have an unusual skill/hobby?
I'm fairly good at makeup, not sure if that counts as a skill.
Â
How do you think your friends would describe you?
I'm pretty sarcastic, but in a funny way. Some would say witty as well.
Â
If you could see anyone in concert, who would it be?
Khalid or Travis Scott
Â
What are some of the top moments/favorite memories from your career so far?
Coming into the Oregon game and hitting a double off the wall.
Â
If you could play any sport other than softball, what would it be?
Volleyball, I was fairly good at it in middle school.
Â
Do you have a favorite "binge" show or series that you are watching?
I just finished Tiger King on Netflix and it was crazy, definitely recommend.
Â
What is your favorite quote, saying or motto?
Everything happens for a reason. I really believe that. There's a plan for us we just have to let life play out.

I am… so grateful for this sport.
I have always wanted to… go skydiving.
Coach Holly was right when she said… you need to give yourself more credit.
