LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Krista Wallace-Boaz, associate dean and professor of piano and pedagogy in the School of Music, has been named the new Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for the University of Louisville. Her appointment will be effective July 1, 2020.
Appointed by the university president, the FAR is a faculty member with administrative function who does not hold an administrative or coaching position in the athletics department. In this role, Wallace-Boaz will provide oversight and guidance in the administration of athletics programs, and serve as the university's liaison between faculty, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA. Wallace-Boaz, who currently serves as the chair of the Faculty Senate, has served in numerous liaison, oversight and governance roles including vice chair of the University of Louisville Athletics Association (ULAA) board of directors.
She will play a leading role in the areas of academic integrity, governance and commitment to rules compliance, promotion of institutional control of athletics, commitment to diversity and equity, including student-athlete welfare and well-being, and facilitation of the integration of the academic and athletic components of the university community.
"Krista's strong academic values and high ethical standards, along with her compassion for and understanding of the complex issues our student-athletes face every day will serve both the University and ULAA very well in this role," said President Bendapudi.
Wallace-Boaz is succeeding Elaine Wise, former chair of the Humanities Division and member of the Departments of English and Comparative Humanities, who announced she would step down from the FAR position at the end of this fiscal year.
Wise served as FAR for 22 years. Since her initial appointment in 1998, the ULAA has strengthened its commitment to academic integrity. For thousands of student-athletes she has served as the faculty advocate for excellence in the classroom, as well as dedication to individual and community well-being. The university thanks professor Wise for her years of service in this important role.
