Field Hockey Continues Academic Success

The University of Louisville field hockey team continued its academic success in the classroom with a program-best 3.794 team GPA in the spring semester.

The Cardinals' spring results mark the 19th straight semester with a collective GPA of 3.0 or better, surpassing the previous high of 3.529 set in the 2019 spring semester. A program record 11 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA including. Earning Dean's Scholar status for the Cardinals are: Carter Ayars, Alli Bitting, AnnMarie Habelow, Sam Mintrath, Mercedes Pastor, Camryn Pichea, India Reed, Meghan Schneider, Katie Schneider, Minna Tremonti and Madison Walsh.

Additionally, every player on the team earned a GPA of 3.0 or better, placing all 24 on the Athletic Director's honor roll. Twenty-one players achieved a GPA of at least 3.5.

All four seniors on the team: Carter Ayars, Isabella Leeker, Whena Munn and Bethany Russ earned their undergraduate degrees in the spring.

"We are so proud of the final semester results both from a team perspective and individually," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "Our student-athletes continue to impress me with their resilience and ability to adjust and adapt. Â Our professors encountered a difficult shift and had to move quickly to get all classes available online after spring break. I want to thank our amazing UofL professors and our academic advisor Rachel Overton who assisted and supported our student-athletes throughout the challenging transition."

About Louisville Field Hockey
The 2019 Cardinals posted a 16-6 overall record, tying a program mark for wins and earned the overall No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, serving as a host site for the first time in program history. Louisville also made its first foray into the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating Michigan 2-1 in double-overtime in its first-round matchup.

UofL finished the season at No. 5 in the NFHCA Coaches poll after reaching as high as No. 5. The Cardinals spent the last 10 weeks of the season ranked among the top 10 in the nation.Â
