
Ahlana Smith Named NJCAA Player of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville women's basketball signee Ahlana Smith has been named the 2019-20 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year presented by TicketSmarter.Â
The sophomore guard led Gulf Coast State to a 23-5 record this season, including an undefeated 11-win mark at home. The Commodores finished as runner-up in the NJCAA South Atlantics District tournament before earning an at-large selection to the national tournament as the No. 5 seeded team.
"Ahlana is an outstanding athlete with unlimited potential," said Gulf Coast State head coach Mary Scovel. "She was a tremendous offensive threat along with great anticipation skills on defense."
Smith posted three 30-point performances throughout the season and put up double-digit scoring marks in all but one contest that she participated in. Smith boasted a season-high 39-point performance in the second game of the season in a 97-89 win at Florida SouthWestern.
She led Gulf Coast State with 20.3 points and 2.7 steals per game, while also recording 4.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She shot 43.9 percent from the floor.
In addition to being named NJCAA Player of the Year, she was also named NJCAA First Team All-American, NJCAA Region VIII Player of the Year and NCJAA Player of the Week (11/4-11/10).
