UofL beats Cleveland State in second match of doubleheader
Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Cleveland State 5-2 Sunday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The win completed a doubleheader sweep for the Cardinals who also posted a 6-1 win against Boston College Sunday afternoon.
"It was a long day. Two tough matches in one day is not easy," said head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "Cleveland State came out on fire ready to compete. They saw that we played a tough first match and took advantage of it, but I'm very proud of how the guys handled themselves. We calmed down and took the momentum."
In doubles, the Cardinals (7-3, 2-0 ACC) took the early lead with a 7-5 win at No. 1 by Sergio Hernandez and Tin Chen.  But Cleveland State pushed back when Clark Bilinovich and Jack Santilli defeated Fabien Salle and Alex Wesbrooks 7-6 at the No. 3 spot. The Vikings clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 victory at the No. 2 spot with Matthew Terry and Kade Mindry taking down Louisville's Daniel Fainblum and Matthew Fung.
In singles, the Cardinals won five straight matches. Sophomore Alex Wesbrooks led the charge with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jack Santilli at the No. 6 spot. Salle downed CSU's Luke Phillips 6-4, 6-1 on court three. Sergio Hernandez extended Louisville's lead to 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Matthew Terry at the No. 2 spot. David Mizrahi clinched the match for the Cards with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Clark Bilinovich on court four.
