BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - February 29 comes around but once every four years, but for the University of Louisville women's golf team, winning the Battle of the Bluegrass State is not something they have to wait that long for. On Saturday afternoon, the Cards claimed their fifth Battle of the Bluegrass title in the last six years, winning in decisive fashion by defeated Western Kentucky 6.5 to 0.5 in match play.
Â
"It was good to get a win against WKU today," head coach Whitney Young said after claiming the team's fifth Battle of the Bluegrass State title. "The team has been working hard in practice and it's good to see it pay off. We continue to gain confidence each time we tee it up, which is what we are looking for at this time during the season."
Â
Played at the Club at Olde Stone, the teams used 7-player lineups rather than the traditional five.
Â
Agustina Gomez Cisterna was the first victory of the day for the Cardinals, as she defeated Caroline Cavin 5&4 in the seventh position.

Â
"It was nice to be able to play a great golf course and see everyone play well," Shah said of the day. "As a team, this gives us good momentum going into the rest of the season. For me personally, I've been working on my putting for the past week so to make a lot of putts today was a big confidence booster."
Â
Margot Bechadergue won her matchup at the No. 5 spot 3&2 over Abigail Smee. In the sixth position, Meghan Nay earned a close victory over Bailey Tyree, 1-up. Western Kentucky's lone point of the match came as a result of Hana Ryskova and Sarah Arnold halving their match at the No. 3 position.
