Tennis Set to Host Austin Peay and NC State

Cards will be at Bass Rudd Tennis Center for a two-match homestand.
Louisville, Ky - The University of Louisville women's tennis team will be back in action this Friday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Friday match against Austin Peay will begin at 4 p.m. and the Sunday match against North Carolina State will begin at 12 p.m.

The Cardinals are off to a hot 7-1 start to their 2020 dual match season. The doubles team of Raven Neely and Maia Haumuller have not lost a doubles match together this season, sitting at 8-0. Junior Nikolina Jovic returned to action for the first time this season in singles and picked up her first win. Sophomore Rhea Verma is off to a 7-0 start in singles this season, playing from the No. 2 spot.

Austin Peay sits at 7-1 to start their 2020 campaign. The Governors are the preseason favorite to win the Ohio Valley conference this season. Junior Fabienne Schmidt, sophomore Danielle Morris, and sophomore Martina Paladini-Jennings were each named to the OVC top ten player rankings to start the season. The head coach of Austin Peay is Ross Brown, who is in his 8th season at the helm. In 2018-19, he led the Governors to their best season in program history, where they went to the NCAA tournament for the first time. Going 22-0 and winning both the OVC regular season and tournament titles.

NC State has started it's 2020 season at 13-2. The Wolfpack have won 4 matches over ranked opponents, including No. 3 Georgia. NC State is led by senior Anna Rogers who was an all-American and first-team all-ACC in 2019. She was ranked as high as No. 13 in singles, which was the highest in program history. Sophomore Alana Smith was a 2019 All-American in doubles. Rogers and Smith were the first two women's tennis players to receive all-Americans honors. The Wolfpack are led by Simon Earnshaw who is entering his sixth year as the head coach. He was the 2019 ACC Coach of the Year.
