LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jazmine Jones and Dae Williams represented the University of Louisville at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) summer meeting held in Atlanta July 28-21.
Â
The two-day meeting, led by Shamaree Brown, ACC Director of Student-Athlete Programs and Compliance, brings together SAAC representatives from each conference member institution various times per year, by teleconference and in-person. The primary purpose of the in-person meetings are to allow representatives to come together as a group to set goals and discuss priorities for the ACC SAAC. The meeting serves as an opportunity for student-athletes to engage in dialog about legislative and governance issues with ACC administration.
Â
During this year's meeting, the group shared best practices and discussed topics such as: early recruiting legislation, conference-wide service initiatives, and mental health practices. UofL SAAC Vice President and senior women's basketball student-athlete, Jazmine Jones, enjoyed being a part of the meetings for the second straight year.
Â
"It was a great experience, I learned a lot from other schools' campuses. It was a great environment with great people."
Â
While in Atlanta the ACC SAAC maximized being in a city full of notable corporations and educational agencies. They toured Tech Square ATL. Tech Square an area with a high concentration of startups, corporate innovators, academic researchers, and students.
Â
Continuing the career exploration, the group also toured the worldwide headquarters for NCR, the world's leading enterprise technology provider of software, hardware and services for banks, retailers, restaurants, small businesses and telecom and technology. Other locations visited during their trip was to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the nationally-renowned Georgia Aquarium.
Â
First-time attendee Dae Williams, a senior on the football team and ACC SAAC conference representative, came back to campus energized and motivated to get on the ground working to enhance the UofL SAAC.
Â
"I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the ACC SAAC meeting. Being surrounded by outstanding athletes from other programs was a humbling experience. Discussing ways to help improve our campuses and the ACC was extremely beneficial and the energy was incredible. It was just amazing being able to be a part of something much bigger than myself."
