Dear Softball...

Dear softball, thank you for the journey of a lifetime.
Upon the conclusion of her softball career at the University of Louisville, 2019 senior Megan Hensley reflects on life lessons taught by the game of softball.
Dear Softball,
Â
Thank you for the journey of a lifetime.
Â
I would not be the person I am today without your life lessons. You taught me the value of hard work and that it pays off. You showed me that I was capable of anything I wanted to do, despite what everyone else said. These lessons translated directly to life.
Â
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, a slump would come to keep me humble. You are a game of failure and one has to be able to learn from each mistake in order to maximize success.
Â
You are a game where anything could happen on any given day and the outcome is never certain. With your guidance, I learned how to adapt to situations as they came about. Everything is not always going to go your way and you have to know how to handle each situation. Â
Â
You taught me the importance of a team. Each member plays an important role to be successful. However, the biggest piece of a team is how each player relies on and trusts one another. After a tough loss, when everyone was down, we always found a way to pick each other up and move on to get better. It forms a true bond and friendship unlike any other. Â
Â
You gave me the opportunity to travel around the country to play the sport I love with a team that I will cherish forever.Â
Â
Those are just a few of the many opportunities that you have given to me.
Â
I am proud to be a Louisville Cardinal and I could not have asked for a better four years of my life.
Â
Sincerely,
Megan Hensley
