March 29, 2019 | General
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- John Ballard, who has over 20 years of experience in golf course management, has been selected as Director of Golf Operations for the University of Louisville Golf Club.
"John has extensive experience in the golf industry and at ULGC," said Vince Tyra, UofL Vice President and Director of Athletics. "His knowledge and understanding of our facilities, staff and members; his shared view of necessary enhancements to the facilities; and member experience is what set him apart in our search for a permanent General Manager. We plan to expand our support from the Athletic Department to ensure John's individual success as well as that of ULGC."
Ballard will be responsible for day-to-day club operations, which include sales and marketing, member relations and services, financial administration, human resources, programming and event planning, and facility management and maintenance.
A native of Tennessee, Ballard earned a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1997. He has managed golf courses at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.; The Club at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo.; and Pinehurst National in Pinehurst, N.C. before moving to Louisville.
Ballard spent 18 years in a leadership role at Audubon Country Club before joining the ULGC staff as golf course superintendent in June 2016. During his time at ULGC, Ballard has been a constructive leader in helping to elevate the golf course, facility personnel, equipment and ultimately overall care of the facility.
Ballard has served as president of the state's Kentucky Turfgrass Council and currently serves on the board of directors for the Kentuckiana Golf Course Superintendent's Association. He has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendent's Association since 1996 and received its highest ranking as Certified Golf Course Superintendent in 2010.
Ballard and his wife of 20 years, Christy, have two sons, Grant (15) and Nicholas (11).
