Walz Named Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year Candidate
February 27, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Head coach Jeff Walz has led the No. 3 Cardinals to a 25-2 record this season.
ATLANTA (February 27, 2019) – The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today that University of Louisville women's basketball head coach Jeff Walz is one of 15 coaches in the running for the 2019 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year honor.
Walz has led the No. 3 Cardinals to a 25-2 record this season and at 12-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, they are two wins away from clinching a share of their second consecutive regular season conference title.
The winningest coach in Louisville women's basketball history, Walz recorded his 300th career victory earlier this season at Western Kentucky, where he began his coaching career under the tutelage of Paul Sanderford.
The Cardinals host Senior Night vs. No. 10 NC State on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.
Â
Louisville needs 12,900 fans to attend the game on Thursday to eclipse an average attendance of 10,000 for the season. It would mark the first time since the first two seasons (2010-11 – 10,859, 2011-12 – 10,670) at the KFC Yum! Center to eclipse 10,000-plus fans per game for a season.
Â
Park Community Credit Union will donate $1 to Gilda's Club Kentuckiana for every fan over 8,000 at Thursday's game.
