UofL student-athletes logged more than 3,000 hours of community service
Â
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Throughout the month of October, 593 University of Louisville student-athletes accumulated 3,001 community service hours from 35 different non-profit community organizations. They all participated in 66 different opportunities across the community. The Baseball team led this month in service with an average of 22 hours per student-athlete.
Â
UofL tracks student-athlete community service hours with the Helper Helper program which holds a community service competition from September 1 through December 4 called the NCAA Team Works Challenge. Louisville is currently ranked third in community service across all NCAA Division 1 universities and ranked sixth across all NCAA divisions that utilize this program.
Â
Cardinal student-athletes participated in several community events such as the American Cancer Society's Making Stride Against Breast Cancer Walk, Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure, The Louisville Ironman and UofL's Cards Come Together Community Clean-up in Old Louisville. Cards Come Together was a university-wide week of service that athletic staff and student-athletes participated in.
Â
"I'm grateful to be able to be here and support those who continue to fight so hard to battle what they deal with in their day to day," said freshman Logan Lupo a football student-athlete. Â
