Snior Celene Funke chronicles the final day of the OKC Challenge
The University of Louisville softball team completed the final event of the 2019 OKC Challenge and the most recent edition is in the books. Senior outfielder Celene Funke chronicled the day's competition and reveals the winner of the entire intra-squad contest.
Â
"The Red and Black Squads marched up to the Marshall Center for the final day of the OKC Challenge at 6:45 this morning. Their final task consisted of one more individual competition - max squat.
Â
Throughout the fall, the team has spent countless hours in the weight room, lifting four days a week for the past four months. OKC Day five was everyone's opportunity to show their teammates how strong they've truly become. There was no strategy to today's events. It came down to pure strength.
Â
Three different kinds of squats scattered across the weight room. All based on modifications worked on throughout the fall, most of the team did front squat, some did back squat, while the others completed their challenge with belt squat. Our scores were calculated by how much we were able to lift based on our body weight that was recorded when we walked into the weight room.
Â
Both teams pushed themselves to their limits. Many of us even surprised ourselves with the weights we were able to accomplish. After everyone had finished, each person recorded their weight on the whiteboard.
Â
Mitch tallied the results, while Caryn went over our winter workout packets. The results came in and the Red Squad won the day with 49 points compared to the Black Squad's 34. Nevertheless, the Black Squad was able to cling to their lead from Friday; edging out the Red Team by 68 points with a final score of 560. Maddy Newman's Black Team was crowned the 2019 OKC Challenge Champions!
Â
It was great to see everyone compete and push their limits during the five-day OKC Challenge. However, we are now ready to take on the 2020 season as one unit. February can't come soon enough!"
