Cardinals Clinch No. 6 Seed in ACC Tournament on Senior Night

No. 25 Louisville fell to No. 7 Wake Forest 3-1 at Lynn Stadium
LOUISVILLE Ky. - The 25th ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team could not overcome two early goals scored by No. 7 Wake Forest, as the Cardinals fell 3-1 Friday, November 1st at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Prior to the match, Louisville recognized its five seniors Cody Cochran, Cherif Dieye, Louka Masset, Will Meyers, and Kino Ryosuke.

The Cardinals earned the sixth seed in the ACC Tournament and will host Virginia Tech at Lynn Stadium Wednesday, November 6 at 4:00 p.m.

Despite out-shooting Wake Forest 6-4 in the first half of the match, the Cardinals surrendered two early goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes. Louisville's lone goal was scored by Masset in his final home regular season match, off an assist from Cherif Dieye in the 36th minute. Dieye send a cross from the right side into the back as Masset scored with a back heel flick, inside the far left post.

Wake Forest added a goal in the 52nd minute to extend its lead. The Cardinals' pushed its offense forward in the final minutes, as all four of their second-half shots came in the final seven minutes or the match.

UofL goalie Jake Gelnovatch finished the game with two saves, both of which came in the second half.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 8-6-2 on the season and 3-4-1 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons improve to 13-3-1 on the season and 6-2 in ACC action.
