Louisville Captures Two Singles and a Doubles Title at Purdue Invitational

Sergio Hernandez, Tin Chen win in singles, Hernandez and Fabien Salle take doubles championship
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team won titles in a pair of singles flights and a doubles championship on the final day of the Purdue Invitational Sunday.

"We had good results this weekend," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We won three out of our five brackets and finished with a 20-3 overall record. Most of all, I am really happy with how the guys competed. They showed a lot passion and poise. We still have more work to do, but I am really excited how they are improving each and every day."

All four Louisville players either won or posted a runner-up finish in the tournament as Sergio Hernandez and Tin Chen won flights 'A' and 'B' respectively and freshman Matthew Fung fell in the championship match of the 'C' bracket. The duo of Hernandez and sophomore Fabien Salle captured the 'A' doubles title while Chen and freshman Matthew Fung finished runner-up in 'B' doubles.

The Cardinals started the day by taking the 'A' doubles titles when Hernandez and Chen defeated DePaul's Chris Casati and Boris Spanjaard 6-4 in the finals.

In flight 'B' The tandem of Chen and Funk battled, but eventually fell in a 7-6(4) tiebreaker to Purdue's Tomasz Dudek and Maksymilian Raupuk.

In singles action, Hernandez capped a 4-0 run in the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Army's Myles Conlin in the 'A' division. Chen also registered is fourth straight singles win of the weekend, delivering a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Army's AJ Woodman.

The Cardinals will continue the fall season next weekend at home when they host the Louisville Invitational Oct. 11-13.
