Cardinals Host Successful Red & Black Regatta
October 05, 2019 | Rowing
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team hosted its 13th annual Red & Black Regatta at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park Saturday morning (Oct. 5). In the Cardinals' lone home event of the year, fans and parents were able to watch six intra-squad scrimmage races, as well as an alumnae race.
Â
The morning event opened with remarks from head coach Derek Copeland, who welcomed parents and spectators with a preview of the season and a refresher on how the sport operates. Along with Copeland's message, the Cardinal Pride Pep Band helped spread team spirit at the event.
Â
In the races, the intra-squad teams were divided on a variety of categories, including Florida rowers against their international teammates, former walk-ons versus sophomores and juniors, and juniors vs seniors.
Â
Following the races, the Cardinals hosted a cookout for the rowers and their families, as well as all spectators in attendance.
Â
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to their first official regatta of the season, the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 19 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
