Rowing to Host Red & Black Regatta Saturday Morning
October 04, 2019 | Rowing
The 13th annual event will feature six intra-squad races, an alumni race, and a post-race cookout
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team will celebrate its 20th anniversary season when it hosts the 13th Annual Red & Black Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park on River Road. Saturday's event marks the only home event for the Cardinals during the 2019-20 season.
Â
"More valuable than results, trophies, or medals, are the people this program has produced—two whole decades worth of alums," assistant coach and UofL alumnae Hannah Ritter explains. "This weekend is a celebration of our team's biggest proudest accomplishments: the incredible humans that graduated from Louisville rowing. I'm so glad we have the opportunity to recognize the alumnae for their contributions both to the Louisville rowing team and to the world outside of UofL."
Â
The day's events include six intra-squad scrimmages and an alumni race, followed by a cookout with the rowers, coaches, families and program alumni. Spectators will be able to watch the team compete at home and learn more about the sports of rowing. The Cardinals will showcase many returners from last year's squad, as well as 11 freshmen to the team.
Â
"It is incredibly exciting to celebrate 20 years of University of Louisville Rowing this weekend alongside our Red and Black Regatta," assistant coach Samantha Sarff says. "I am continuously impressed with the level of character, work ethic, and determination the current team possesses and I am incredibly excited to meet the 20 years of Cardinal Rowers that have laid such a brilliant foundation for this program."
Â
The Cardinal Pride Pep Band and Louie the Cardinal will also be in attendance at the regatta. Louisville rowing gear will be on sale throughout the day. Click here for directions to the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center.
