UofL student-athletes logged more than 800 hours of community service in September
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville student-athletes participated in 38 different service opportunities for the month of September.
Â
UofL student-athletes have accumulated over 800 hours of community service in September alone. More than 160 student-athletes participated in 38 different service opportunities for 17 non-profit organizations. The all-girl cheerleading squad, softball team, and Ladybirds dance team are leading the teams in service with an average of five to six hours per student-athlete.
Â
Cardinal student-athletes participated in several recognizable events such as the St. Jude's Walk to End Childhood Cancer, Norton Children's Hospital's Bike to Beat Cancer and The American Heart Association's Heart walk. These events directly impact the health and wellness of the Louisville community.
Â
"I enjoy being able to cheer on those who participate in these events because it lets them know that we here at Louisville support them," said sophomore Katherine Coffey from the women's track and field team.
Â
Cardinal student-athletes recognize the impact of volunteering in the local community.
Â
"Giving kids high-fives, cheering on the walkers at St. Jude and congratulating the bikers at Bike to Beat Cancer has been such a great experience," Coffey said. "I will definitely be back next year to continue to give back to our community!"
Â
Junior Makenli Forrest from the women's track and field team said, "We love to be a part of something bigger than ourselves and supporting our community here in Louisville."
