Cardinals Send Two Doubles Teams to ITA/Ohio Valley Regional Quarterfinals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team totaled 11 wins on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/Ohio Valley Regional with three doubles teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

The day started with a successful doubles showing with every Cardinal duo picking up at least one victory. Senior Clement Filho and freshman James Bell defeated Tennessee State's Maksims Kazijevs and Stefan Koruga 8-3.

Sophomores Sergio Hernandez and Fabien Salle teamed to beat East Tennessee State's Dimitri Badra and Chris Mikrovas 8-7(5) in their first round and went on to defeat Vanderbilt's Keaton Allwardt and James Ignatowich by the same score.

Junior Tin Chen and sophomore Alex Wesbrooks picked up an 8-5 win over Vanderbilt's Marcus Ferreira and Christaan Worst and outlasted Xavier's Srdan Pejic and Brett Winters 8-8(3) in the second round.

Sophomore David Mizrahi and freshman Randy Wilson defeated Tennessee Tech's Fanis Kontopoulos and Marc Mila 8-4 before falling 8-3 to Vanderbilt's Maxwell Freeman and George Harwell.

In singles action, Mizrahi, Hernandez, Chen, Wesbrooks and Salle posted wins to move to Friday's second round.

Mizrahi topped Belmont's Hendrik Inno 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-0. Hernandez cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Austin Peay's Thiago Nogueira. Chen defeated Butler's Zach Trimpe 6-2, 6-1. Wesbrooks picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win against Dayton's Georgi Mavrodiev and Salle beat Ball State Thibault De Nigri 6-2, 6-3.

The tournament will continue on Friday.
