LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville athletics department finished in the top 30 of the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I Standings for the fifth-consecutive season, it was announced recently.
Louisville accrued more than 200 points in each the fall, winter, and spring seasons, placing 30th in the national competition. Eight Atlantic Coast Conference schools completed the year in the top 30, the second most among all Division I conferences.
The women's golf team secured the most points of any of the school's spring sports, highlighted by the team's second trip in program history to the NCAA Championships. Under the tutelage of head coach Courtney Trimble, the Cardinals earned their highest finish at a regional with their fourth-place showing in San Francisco.
Louisville's baseball team advanced to the final round of an NCAA Regional for the seventh-consecutive season, capping the year with an impressive 45-19 mark. The Cardinals, who finished the year No. 25 in the USA Today poll, advanced to the NCAA postseason for the 11th time in 12 seasons.
The Cardinals' men's and women's track and field teams, highlighted by Dorcas Wasike's runner-up finish in the 10,000m, compiled solid showings at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women's team tied for 28th, while Joe Delgado's fourth-place finish in the decathlon aided the men to a tie for 46th.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
