Cardinals lead all programs with school record 10 student-athletes named to All-ACC Academic Team in 2018
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville led all schools and set a program record with 10 student-athletes named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Rowing Team as announced by the league on Thursday.
Senior Rebecca Busk, junior Abbi Fitts, senior Kirsti Harrison, freshman Violette Legrand, senior Callie McGowan, senior Sarah Podwojski, senior Hannah Richardson, senior Sophie Schulz, senior Kim Streetz and senior Allison Zimmermann represented the Cardinals on this year's team. With Louisville landing 10 of the 62 All-ACC Academic Team members in 2018, Virginia, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Syracuse were next with eight each.
Harrison, McGowan, Schulz and Streetz are three-time All-ACC Academic Team selections, while Busk, Podwojski and Zimmermann are two-time honorees. On the water, Schulz was an All-ACC First Team selection and Legrand was the ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC Second Team member.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season were also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Earlier this month, the Louisville rowing team had 13 student-athletes named as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association scholar athletes, the second highest total in school history. Ranked No. 20 in the final US Rowing/CRCA coaches' poll, the Cardinals closed their 2018 season with a fifth-place finish at the ACC Championship.
