Women’s Golf Competing in Summer Tournaments
June 25, 2018 | Women's Golf
Four Cardinals are competing in the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship June 26-30.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Success from the University of Louisville women's golf program didn't end at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
Lauren Hartlage, coming off a record-setting season with the Cardinals, continued that momentum in her first offseason tournament. Competing in the Women's Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship with Delaney Shah, Hartlage captured the match play consolation bracket title. She shot a 2-under-par 69 in the lone round of stroke play before totaling four victories in match play.
Shah advanced to the quarterfinals in the match play championship bracket after posting three victories in the event in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Margot Bechadergue returned home at the end of the season and is playing in France during the summer. The rising sophomore, in one of her first out-of-season tournaments, shot an even-par through two rounds of stroke play and then secured four victories in match play to earn runner-up at the Coupe Gaveau in Aix les Bains, France.
Kristin Engle and former Louisville golfer Molly Skapik each participated in the Ohio Women's Open during mid-June. Engle tied for sixth in the amateur bracket, while Skapik tied for third among the professionals.
In Georgia, Meghan Nay placed in the top 15 in stroke play, making the cut, and then advanced to match play championship finals bracket.
Seven current Cardinals are competing in events within the next two weeks, including Olivia Cason, Lauren Hartlage, Mairead Martin, and Linda Trockel, who are playing at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship from June 26-30 at the Hillside Golf Club in Southport England.
