Cards Place Six on All-ACC Academic Softball Team

Louisville leads all schools with six All-ACC Academic softball selections
The University of Louisville placed a league-best six student-athletes on the the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the league office on Monday.

Caitlin Ferguson, Celene Funke, Megan Hensley, Jenna Jordan, Sidney Melton and Maddy Newman represented the Cardinals on the squad. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Ferguson, an exercise science major from Versailles, Ky., earns the league honor for the second straight year. The infielder garnered National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Southeast Region honors after finishing her sophomore season with a .317 batting average, 40 RBIs, four home runs, 10 doubles and 31 runs.

Funke (Carmel, Ind.) led the Cardinals with a .356 batting average and 17 stolen bases and scored 29 runs in her sophomore season. The finance major also earned Google Cloud Academic All-America third team honors. Â Â

Hensley (Ashland, Ky.) picks up her second straight all-ACC academic nod. The exercise science major is a two-time NFCA All-Southeast Region was also an All-ACC first team selection after leading the Cardinals with 49 RBIs, nine home runs and standing second on the team with a .355 batting average. The junior utility player/pitcher registered a 17-8 record in the circle with 138 strikeouts in 184.0 innings and collected ACC Pitcher of the Week, NFCA, USA Softball and espnW Player of the Week honors on May 1.

Jordan, an exercise science major from Ft. Collins, Colo., earns her third straight all-ACC academic team honor. The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America selection recently graduated with magna cum laude honors with a 4.0 G.P.A., while receiving the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Exercise Science Award. She capped her senior season with a .272 batting average with three home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

This marks the third straight all-ACC academic team selection for Melton (Columbus, Ohio) who recently completed her redshirt junior campaign all-ACC first team honors as the Cardinals' starting shortstop. The exercise science major registered a .329 batting average and led the team with 54 hits and 45 runs and was a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen bases.

Newman, a psychology major from Osceola, Ind., was named to the ACC all-freshmen team and finished her rookie season with a .315 batting average, 22 runs and eight stolen bases.
