Men's Tennis Falls Short Against Miami
April 01, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Junior Brandon Lancaster posted a singles win for the Cards
The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to Miami in an ACC match Sunday at the Hurricanes' Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Â
"This was a disappointing day," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We competed okay, but did not play good outdoor tennis. We need the weather to cooperate in Louisville so we can spend time training outside. Hats off to Miami."
Â
No. 46 Miami posted doubles wins on courts 1 and 2 to start the match. At the No. 1 spot, Louisville's 14th-ranked pair of junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Parker Wynn fell 6-3 to No. 50 Adria Soriano and Christian Langmo while sophomore Clement Filho and junior Federico Gomez also dropped a 6-3 decision to Bojan Jankulovski and Dane Dunlap at the No. 2 spot.
Â
In singles action, junior Brandon Lancaster evened the score with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tatsuki Shimamoto at the five-spot. Miami answered on court three, where Dan Dunlap edged Gomez 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3). At the No. 6 position, Louisville sophomore Clement Filho picked up a 6-1 first-set win against Niclas Genovese, but fell 6-3, 6-3 in the next two sets to give the Hurricanes a 3-1 lead. The match was decided on court four where Bojan Jankulovski defeated senior Nicolas Rouanet 7-5, 6-1.
Â
The 38th-ranked Cardinals (14-6, 4-3 ACC) will resume their four-match road swing next weekend when they face a pair of top 25 ACC teams with visits to No. 5 North Carolina Friday and No 21 Duke Sunday.
