
No. 3 Women's Basketball Faces No. 15 Stanford in Sweet 16 on Friday

The Cardinals and Cardinal will tip off at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.
Louisville advanced to its eighth NCAA Sweet 16 in school history and their sixth in the last eight years with a 90-72 win over Marquette on Sunday. All eight Sweet 16 appearances have occurred in the last 11 years under the guidance of head coach Jeff Walz. Louisville is one of eight programs to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 at least six times since 2010.
The Cardinals now seek their fourth ever trip to the Elite Eight. They are 3-4 all-time in the Sweet 16 and twice advanced to the national championship game after recording wins in the regional semifinal.
In the win over Marquette, Louisville scored 34 first quarter points, which marked the most in the first quarter all season long and the second most points in a quarter this season. They scored a season-high 35 points in the third quarter at Boston College.
With 24 points and 13 rebounds on Sunday against Marquette, senior Myisha Hines-Allen recorded her 16th double-double of the season and with 1,984 career points moved just 16 points shy of 2,000.
Sam Fuehring is leading the team in scoring in postseason games with 16.0 per contest and scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting vs. Marquette. She picked up her third double-double of the year and her second in five games with 14 points and 11 rebounds vs. Boise State.Â
ABOUT THE CARDINAL
Stanford (24-10, 14-3) advanced to the Lexington regional semifinal with a 90-70 win over No. 12 seed Florida Gulf Coast on Monday. Alana Smith led the way for the Cardinal in the win as she finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 11-of-21 from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Overall, Stanford outrebounded FGCU, 52-18.
Stanford is one of the best defensive teams in the country as they rank 26th in field goal percentage defense (36.2 percent) and 19th with 5.3 blocked shots per game. They rank 39th with 41.2 rebounds per game and 36th with 764 3-pt field goal attempts.
Brittany McPhee leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game and is one of three players averaging double figures. Smith is averaging 13.7 points, while pulling down 7.1 rebounds and recording 1.8 blocks. Kiana Williams scores 10.5 points per game and has a team-high 70 made 3-pointers, while shooting 39 percent from deep. McPhee and Smith were both named All-Pac 12.
