Norman, Purcell Listed Among Top Up-and-Coming Coaches
November 13, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Assistant Coaches Stephanie Norman and Sam Purcell were included on Fansided's list of 30.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball associate head coach Stephanie Norman and associate coach Sam Purcell were included on Fansided's list of 30 up-and-coming coaches.
Â
Norman has worked alongside head coach Jeff Walz since his arrival at Louisville 12 seasons ago, while Purcell is in his sixth season as an assistant coach.
Â
Stephanie Norman, Louisville associate head coach -Â Norman is undisputedly one of the best recruiters in the country and Louisville owes much of its success to her. Heading into her 12th season on the Cardinals' bench, Norman is already high on many short lists and could leave whenever she wants to. She was rumored to be in the mix for the Oregon job in 2014 - she is an Oregon native - and all she has done since then is improve her profile. She wants to win a national championship, so she won't leave for just anything, but it's hard to believe Norman won't get a good opportunity as soon as next offseason.
Â
Sam Purcell, Louisville associate coach -Â The colorful and cheerful Purcell - both on his social media accounts and in his dress - has an infectious personality, one that has seen Louisville land three Top Five recruiting classes since his arrival in 2013. The 39-year-old has made an honorable climb up the coaching ladder, starting as a student assistant at Auburn in 2000 then working his way up as a video coordinator (twice) and assistant with stops at Tulsa and Georgia Tech. Several insiders noted that, just like his co-worker Stephanie Norman, he has all the tools to run his own program.
Â
In order to compile the list of the top 30 up-and-comers, Fansided's HighPostHoops.com spoke with people from across the women's game, including agents, coaches, administrators, broadcasters and insiders like Debbie Antonelli, Rebecca Lobo and many more.
Â
Louisville was the only team to have two coaches included on the list.
