Dee connects on first half penalty kick for his 12th career goal, including the third this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Geoffrey Dee scored on a first half penalty kick to lift the No. 11 University of Louisville men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals improved to 7-2-2 on the season with the win while remaining unbeaten at home with a 5-0-1 record. The Eagles dropped to 5-5-1 overall after making their first ever visit to Louisville.
The only goal of the night came in the 34th minute when Dee connected on the penalty kick for his third goal of the season and the 12th of his collegiate career. The PK chance came after Louisville's Tate Schmitt pushed down and fouled inside the box by a Georgia Southern defender.
That was enough scoring for the Cardinals, who claimed their fifth shutout of the season. Making his third start of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Will Meyer needed just one save to register his second shutout of 2018.
Louisville finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 edge on goal. The Eagles closed the match with an 8-4 cushion in corner kicks.
Up next, the No. 6 Cardinals continue their four-match homestand against ACC foe and 24th-ranked Syracuse on Friday at 7 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
