Cards improve to 2-0 on the season

The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Toledo 6-1 for its second win of the day in the Cardinals' season-opening doubleheader Thursday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards opened day with a 4-0 win against Butler. Sophomore Parker Wynn led the Cardinals with a 4-0 record, going undefeated in singles and doubles.

"Toledo is a really good indoor team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We kind of played in their territory, they really battled us tooth and nail on almost every court."

The Cardinals opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. At the No. 1 spot, Louisville's sixth-ranked duo of junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Parker Wynn topped Danilo Vukotic and Reid Teatsorth 6-3. Juniors George Hedley and Brandon Lancaster followed with a 6-3 win over Luka Vitosevic and Vince Anzalone at the two-spot.

In singles action, junior George Hedley added to the lead, defeating Serjen Olmeda 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6. Senior Nicolas Rouanet quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Anzalone to bring the score to 3-0. Senior Ciro Lampasas' 6-4, 6-2 decision against Vukotic at the No. 4 spot sealed the win for the Cardinals.

Toledo got on the scoreboard on court five where Thawin Suksathaporn defeated sophomore Clement Filho 6-1, 6-4 to make the score 4-1.

Wynn pushed the Cardinals ahead when he beat Luka Vitosevic 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 and Gomez wrapped up the match by gutting out a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (9-7) win over Reid Teatsorth at the three-spot.

The Cardinals (2-0) return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on Purdue.
