No. 11 Field Hockey Drops ACC Opener to No. 4 Duke

Cards fall to Blue Devils 5-0
The 11th-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell 5-0 to No. 4 Duke in its ACC opener Friday evening at the Blue Devils' Jack Katz Stadium. The Cardinals (4-3, 0-1 ACC) will wrap up a five-game road stretch at No. 14 Northwestern on Sept. 19.

Duke (5-1, 1-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the fourth minute of the game when the Blue Devils were awarded a corner. Rose Tynan connected on a rebound off of Alyssa Chillano's shot to give her team a 1-0 lead.

In the ninth minute of the game, Caroline Andretta added a second goal to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.

The score remained 2-0 at halftime with Duke owning a 10-2 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corners.

After nine scoreless minutes to open the second half, the Duke offense resumed when Andretta and Ashley Kristen registered a pair of goals within a three-minute span.

Alexa Mackintire capped the scoring on a penalty corner with seven minutes remaining in the game.

In the game, the Blue Devils outshot Louisville 20-2 and held a 5-2 edge in penalty corners. Junior Ayeisha McFerran (0-2) collected six saves in the game while junior Taylor Stone paced the Cardinals with two shots. Sammie Steele (5-1) posted her fourth shutout of the season for Duke.
