No. 9 Cardinals suffer first exhibition defeat falling 3-2 at No. 7 Indiana

WESTFIELD, Ind. - Junior Adrien Cabon delivered a pair of goals as the No. 9 University of Louisville men's soccer team endured its first preseason setback with a 3-2 road loss to No. 7 Indiana on Thursday night at Grand Park.

A native of Lyon, France, Cabon twice pulled the Cardinals even against the Hoosiers connecting for goals in each half of the 90-minute exhibition match. After IU gained a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on the first of two goals in the match from Griffin Dorsey, Cabon tied the score at 1-1 in the 25th minute with his header on a corner kick off the foot of junior Danny Reynolds.

The Hoosiers moved back ahead at 2-1 just before halftime when Dorsey scored in the 40th minute for his second goal of the night. Cabon matched Dorsey in the 61st minute connecting on another corner kick chance for the Cardinals finishing from eight yards following a well-placed ball from senior Tim Kubel.

Indiana regained command for good less than five minutes later after Timmy Mehl scored on a free kick in the 65th minute for the final 3-2 margin. The Cardinals lost despite finishing with an 11-6 advantage in shots, while shots on goal were even at 4-4. The teams also finished with five corner kicks each in the match.

Up next, the Cardinals will close their three-match preseason schedule against Oakland on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium and admission is free.

Season ticket holders will receive tickets for all men's and women's matches while sitting in the same seats for every match. Season ticket pricing at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium remains the same in 2017 as it has been since the facility opened in 2014. Season tickets in the reserved seating areas are as low as $3 per match, while general admission/berm/bleacher tickets are as low as $2.25 per game with the family plan.
