
Women’s Golf Caps Season at NCAA Columbus Regional

The Cardinals finished 14th in the team standings.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team capped the 2016-17 campaign on Wednesday at its fourth-consecutive NCAA Regional Championship.
The Cardinals, who shot a 31-over-par 319 on Wednesday at the NCAA Columbus Regional in Columbus, Ohio, finished 14th. Louisville recorded a 69-over-par 933 over the three-day event, held at the Scarlet Course on Ohio State University's campus.
Playing on arguably the most challenging course of the four regional championships, Florida and South Carolina tied for first, with each logging a 22-over-par 886.
Molly Skapik paced the Cardinals for the tournament, shooting a 12-over-par 228. The junior tied for 30th after a 9-over-par 81 in the final round. She completed the 2016-17 campaign with a 75.44 stroke average, a season best.
Freshman Lauren Hartlage carded the best third-round score on the team, with a 3-over-par 75. Playing her first collegiate NCAA event, she tied for 37th behind a 14-over-par 230.
The year-long performance from the Campbellsville, Ky., native was quite impressive. Hartlage capped the season with a 73.50-stroke average, the sixth-best single-season total in program history. She had 14 rounds even or below par, a freshman program record, and secured five top-10 finishes.
Olivia Cason put together the team's third-best tournament score, tying for 51st after shooting a 17-over-par 233. The sophomore also had a solid campaign, concluding the year with a 74.74-stroke average. She locked up four top-10 showings and had 10 rounds even or below par.
Meghan Nay, who was competing in her sixth event of the season, contributed two rounds in the regional championship. A redshirt freshman, she tied for 80th on the heels of a 27-over-par 243.
Though the season comes to a close, Louisville put together the fourth-best four-player team scoring average in program history. The Cardinals in 2016-17 averaged a 298.26 through 34 rounds of competition. The team had four top-five finishes.
