Â
The Cards took the doubles point with wins on Nos. 2 and 3. At the one-spot, Matt Bishop and Gabriel Araujo defeated Parker Wynn and Sean Donohue 6-3 to give Xavier and early edge. George Hedley and Nicolas Rouanet defeated Trent Smith and Jack Dykema 6-2 on No. 3 to even the doubles tallyl. Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Ciro Lampasas sealed the point for Louisville, defeating Connor LaFavre and Jeremy Schneider 7-5 at No. 3.
Â
In singles action, Clement Filho defeated Michael Lee 6-0, 6-2 at the six-spot. At No. 4, Brandon Lancaster captured a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Trent Smith. Wynn defeated Jeremy Schneider 6-3, 6-1 on No. 2 to clinch the match for the Cards. At the three-spot, Rouanet defeated Dykema 6-1, 6-3.
Â
Xavier got on the board after Gabriel Araujo defeated Ciro Lampasas 6-4, 6-3 on No. 5 to bring the score to 5-1.
Â
On court one, Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Matt Bishop to give the Cards a 6-1 victory.
Â
"It was a tough match," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was our fourth match this weekend, and our second of the day after a tough ACC match. My focus is to teach them how to play with fatigue. No one was fresh going into Xavier, but that's on purpose. If you want to win a conference championship, you have to beat multiple teams in a row.  Everybody's legs feel like noodles and you're so mentally fatigued, but you've got to push yourself through and that's what we did today. When you win an NCAA regional, you've got to beat two great teams in a very short period of time. You can't mimic that in practice, you've got to just go through it and that's what we did today. A lot of the guys pushed through fatigue and we beat a pretty good Xavier team 6-1."
