Cards went down swinging in three-set battle
The University of Louisville women's tennis team dropped the doubles point and then won two of the four three-set singles matches before falling 5-2 to ACC rival Syracuse Friday evening in Syracuse.

In doubles, Jessie Paul and Olivia Boesing rolled 6-1 over Nicole Mitchell and Maria Tritou at No. 3. But Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab beat Cardinals pair Elle Stokes and Ariana Rodriguez 6-2 before SU's Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez just edged Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1.

In singles, the Cardinals got wins from Abbie Pahz, who outlasted Maria Tritou 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Elle Stokes hung on to beat Anna Shkudun 7-6 (2-7), 5-7, 14-12 at No. 3. Mariana Humberg won her first set 6-4 at No. 2 but her opponent, Gabriela Knutson roared back 6-1, 6-0 for the win. UofL's Tiffany Huber lost her first set 7-5 but came back to win the second 6-2 before falling 10-7 to Dina Hegab at No. 5.

The Cards continue their weekend road trip with a stop in Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech on Sunday.
