LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9 University of Louisville women's basketball team squares off against No. 7 Notre Dame on ESPN2 Big Monday in Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center at 7 p.m. ET.
The Feb. 6 game is being broadcast on ESPN2, with Dave O'Brien (play-by-play) and Doris Burke (analyst) calling the action. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WTFX 93.1 FM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
Louisville (20-5, 7-3 ACC) saw its five-game winning streak come to a close, when it fell 72-70 in overtime at home to No. 19 NC State on Thursday. It was the Cardinals' first overtime loss since March 4, 2012. Louisville shot just 32.4 percent from the field, compared to NC State's 50.0 percent clip, and the Wolfpack outscored the Cardinals 40-20 in the paint.
Asia Durr had a game-tying high 22 points – all after halftime – to go with six rebounds and two steals. Mariya Moore logged 20 points, her second-consecutive game with as many, and Cortnee Walton pulled down a season-best 12 rebounds.
Through 25 games, Durr is leading the team in scoring at 16.9 per game and has a program-best 78 3-pointers. Myisha Hines-Allen is second in scoring (13.3) and first in rebounding (9.0), while Moore boasts 13.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Briahanna Jackson has team highs of 116 assists and 39 steals.
Notre Dame (21-3, 9-1) has won five-consecutive games, last defeating Virginia Tech 76-59 on the road on Thursday. The Fighting Irish shot 54.1 percent from the field, including a 12-of-19 stint in the third period, and outscored the Hokies 42-20 in the paint. Defensively, Notre Dame stifled Virginia Tech to 35.4 percent from the floor.
Arike Ogunbowale finished with a game-high 16 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists. Kathryn Westbeld came off the bench and contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Starters Marina Mabrey and Brianna Turner each logged 13 points, and Lindsay Allen had nine assists. Chanette Hicks scored 14 points in the loss.
This season, Turner is pacing the Fighting Irish in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (7.5). She is shooting 59.2 percent from the field and has a team-high 55 blocks. Ogunbowale is recording 14.7 points, Mabrey is averaging 13.5 points, and Allen has a conference-best 185 assists and 55 steals.
Collectively, Notre Dame ranks in the top-10 nationally in field goal percentage (No. 5), 3-point field goal percentage (No. 5), assists per game (No. 6), and No. 9 in assist-turnover ratio (No. 9).
SERIES HISTORY – Notre Dame vs. Louisville
Notre Dame leads the all-time series 12-4, having won the last nine-consecutive meetings.
Last season, both programs entered the matchup with 10-0 league records. Louisville jumped out to a 35-30 halftime lead before Notre Dame posted a 66-61 victory at the KFC Yum! Center on Feb. 7, 2016. The Fighting Irish shot 43.6 percent from the field and connected on eight more free throws than the Cardinals.
Myisha Hines-Allen had a game-high 16 points to go with seven rebounds, Mariya Moore finished with 12 points, and Briahanna Jackson logged 11. Cortnee Walton grabbed 13 rebounds. Arike Ogunbowale came off the bench and totaled 15 points in the win.
