
Women's Tennis to Face Marshall and Notre Dame

Cards hit to the road to Huntington before opening ACC with the Irish at home
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team is set to travel to Marshall University on Friday, and then opens ACC play when it hosts the University of Notre Dame on Sunday. The Cardinals face off against the Thundering Herd at 5 p.m. in the Brian David Fox Tennis Center, and the Fighting Irish at noon in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Head Coach Mark Beckham has his team out to the best start in two years with a record of 7-1. Louisville is heading into the weekend with the third best record in the ACC, behind only Wake Forest and NC State, with records of 8-2. In singles, redshirt-sophomore, Aleksandra Mally, and junior, Mariana Humberg have only one loss this season. They both dropped matches versus Georgia State on Friday, before bouncing back against Miami (OH) on Sunday.

Marshall is coming off a win over Virginia Tech last Tuesday, has an overall record 5-2 this season. Marshall University is 6-2 against the University of Louisville in the last eight meetings. Marshall is an experienced team, with a mix of juniors and seniors and only two freshmen on the roster. Junior Maddie Silver currently leads the team with a singles record of 6-1, while going 4-1 this season in doubles. Head Coach John Mercer is currently in his 30th season coaching and  15th season at Marshall. In his tenure with the Herd, Mercer has an overall record of 229-123.

ACC power Notre Dame is off to a 4-1 record this season, Freshmen Bess Waldram and Zoe Spence have the best singles record on the team at 10-4. Head Coach, Jay Louderback has been at Notre Dame since 1989, and has made 23 NCAA Championship appearances in that time frame. This is the third year in a row the Cardinals and the Fighting Irish have faced off, with Notre Dame winning the two most recent matchups. Â Â
