
No. 4 Women's Basketball Heads to South Dakota State, Looks to Move to 8-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 4 Women's Basketball looks to keep things rolling when they head north this weekend to face South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
With the 72-59 win over Indiana on Thursday night, the Cardinals moved out to a 7-0 start, which is tied for the third best start in program history. They have opened the season at 7-0 in five of the last six years after starting 7-0 in 2013-14 and 2016-17 and 8-0 in 2012-13 and 2014-15.
Their best ever start is 15-0 in 2006-07. That season, they finished the year at 27-8, losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Arizona State, 67-58.
The Cards have scored at least 70 points in each of their first seven games, which ties the program record and enhances their record to 183-20 when surpassing the 70-point plateau under head coach Jeff Walz. The Cardinals were 18-3 last season when reaching 70-plus points.
Louisville finished last Friday's game vs. Murray State with a program-record 115 points and with 85.7 points per game, the Cards rank 16th in the country and second in the ACC.Â
With the win over Indiana, UofL is 3-0 against Big Ten teams this season after beating No. 5 Ohio State, 95-90, and No. 24 Michigan, 74-49. The win also helped the ACC to a 10-4 victory over the Big Ten in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The ACC is now 8-0-3 in the challenge. Louisville is 3-1 in the ACC/B1G Challenge.Â
UofL is shooting 80.0 percent from free throw line, which ranks sixth in the country and first in the ACC. They shot 12-of-14 vs. Oregon, 14-of-17 vs. Murray State and 10-of-11 vs. Indiana. They are 36-of-42 (.857) from the stripe in their last three games.Â
South Dakota State is off to a 6-1 start after downing Northern Iowa, 57-47, on Thursday night. With the win over the Panthers, they extended their winning streak at home to 11 games.
Prior to beating NIU, they won both of their games in the Puerto Rico Clasico in Ft. Lauderdale, upsetting No. 23 N.C. State, 75-67, and coming from behind to beat Charlotte, 71-70.
Junior guard Macy Miller is SDSU's and the league's leading scorer, averaging 16.7 points per game. Junior guard Madison Guebert (15.3) is the other Jackrabbit averaging double digits in scoring.
Sophomore Tagyn Larson is SDSU's leading rebounder, grabbing 6.1 per game. The Jackrabbits are outrebounding opponents by 2.4.
